Recycling
Whether we are picking up items from in a home or offering our curbside recycling services, our teams will often come across many recyclable items from furniture to appliances, household items to clothing. What happens to these items, and are they dealt with responsibly?
Mattress Recycling
Mattress and box spring items have been a sore spot for landfills and processing stations for years without a viable solution. In the last decade, we have seen an increase in the number of facilities and organizations who are establishing sustainable strategies to remove these items from the waste stream. When you dispose of your mattress with Junk 4 Good, we choose to send these items to a local non-profit mattress recycling facility where they will be manually disassembled, and upwards of 85% if each item can be reused and recycled. It is important that as a waste hauler, we separate and see these items diverted from the waste stream.
Appliance Recycling
Every week, our junk removal teams remove hundreds of appliances from homes and businesses who are swapping out for newer models. Fortunately, within each appliance, there is a lot of recyclable materials. These items are often brought straight to a metals scrap yard or to an appropriate sorting facility where they will be disassembled and any usable materials will be removed. This is an important step for us as appliance removal takes up a lot of space in our landfills. When our teams have the chance to divert these items from the landfill, we jump on the opportunity.
Electronics Recycling
With advancements in technology happening so rapidly, our teams get called out daily to remove old and dated electronics from businesses and individuals homes. Our junk removal teams are diligently trained to sort and separate electronic items that are able to be recycled. Often these items are dropped off at a local electronics recycling facility where many materials are recovered. These pieces are pulled out of the waste stream and sent for processing to be reused in future products.
Furniture Recycling
Most people don’t know that there are many pieces of furniture that in fact can be recycled. Furniture items often contain bits of wood, metals and fabric which once sorted can be reused. Fortunately, thanks to advanced processing facilities, these often will see new life being used in new products and processes.
Donation Pick-Up Services
In a field of work where our society disposes of so much waste, it is very important to us to donate any usable items to local charities such as the Jasper Place Wellness Centre and other local non-profits. Not only does this satisfy our social mission, but also helps us to achieve our environmental goals.
Junk 4 Good makes all efforts to locally donate furniture and household items when possible. Gently used household furniture items will be donated to local charities and non-profits, where they often find new homes within the community. Commonly, these items will require cleaning or minor repair which offers an opportunity for employment to the staff of these agencies. Not only is this helping to do social GOOD in our immediate community, but it also helps to reduce our environmental footprint and divert usable items which can be reused, away from the landfill.
